All wild birds, their nests and their eggs are protected by law in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended). Some species are given additional protection from disturbance during the breeding season (Schedule 1 species). Nesting birds are a consideration for most developments and can constrain timings of development works
around the bird breeding season. Seeking early advice from our specialist ornithologists can enable scheduling of works around the bird nesting season and therefore avoid costly delays.
Green Ecology can advise you on the appropriate survey methodology, legal protection and likely mitigation requirements. We have the capacity to undertake a wide range of bird surveys including:
- Breeding bird surveys
- Legislation & policy advice
- Winter bird surveys
- Wetland bird surveys (WeBS)
- Common Bird Census (CBC)
- Vantage Point Surveys to record flight lines
- Species specific surveys for Schedule 1 birds such as Barn Owl
- Nocturnal surveys for nightjar, owls and waders
